Anunay’s interest in sport all started from the power os sport in shaping communities
I’ve always been drawn to the energy and emotion that sports create, the way they connect people and shape communities. Growing up, I was fascinated not just by the games but by how brands and athletes inspire audiences through powerful storytelling.
That passion led me to pursue a Master of Business in Sports Management at Deakin and build hands-on experience in sports marketing, from managing university events to producing cricket content. Working in this industry allows me to combine my marketing expertise with something deeply meaningful to me, helping fans, teams, and brands connect through sport.

Where does Anunay want to go?

I aim to deepen my expertise in sports marketing and digital media by working with a leading sports or media organisation. My focus is on mastering end-to-end campaign management, strengthening my data analytics and sponsorship strategy skills, and contributing to large-scale marketing activations that drive measurable fan engagement. I also plan to pursue advanced HubSpot and Google Analytics certifications to build a stronger foundation in performance-driven marketing. | My goal is to grow into a senior marketing leadership role within the sports or media industry, ideally managing brand partnerships and large-scale digital campaigns for a major sporting organisation or rights holder. I want to lead teams that use data, creativity, and storytelling to elevate fan experiences and strengthen brand impact. Long term, I aim to help shape marketing strategy at an organisational level, driving both commercial growth and community engagement through sport. |
What sporting problem keeps Anunay up at night, and how would you solve it?
One problem I’d love to help solve is growing soccer in Australia and elevating it to become the country’s premier sport. Despite a passionate fan base and strong participation rates, the sport still struggles with visibility, funding, and long-term talent development compared to AFL or cricket. I want to contribute to building stronger pathways—from grassroots to professional levels—and help position Australia as one of the top football nations in the world. Whether through marketing, fan engagement, or brand partnerships, I’d like to play a role in making soccer a dominant and unifying force in Australian sport.
What is Anunay like?
What kind of environment do you thrive in?
I thrive in a positive, collaborative work culture where ideas are valued, and people are encouraged to take initiative. I perform best in environments that balance structure with creativity, where clear goals are set, but there’s freedom to experiment, learn, and make an impact through meaningful work.
When have you had to show resilience in your life or career?
I had to demonstrate resilience during one of the toughest periods of my life. In 2018, I lost my mother, which completely changed my outlook and forced me to rebuild my sense of purpose. Soon after, I moved to Australia on my own to pursue further studies and start a new life, just before the pandemic hit. Despite the uncertainty and isolation, I kept pushing forward, balancing studies with part-time work to support myself.
After graduating, I went door-to-door to agencies across Melbourne to secure my first full-time marketing role. That experience taught me perseverance, adaptability, and the importance of staying focused even when circumstances are against you.
What about Anunay’s interests outside of work?
What are your interests outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy travelling and exploring new cultures, which broadens my perspective and creativity. I also like volunteering and meeting people from different backgrounds to learn from their experiences. I actively seek activities that push me out of my comfort zone, whether it’s public speaking, sports, or new challenges, as a way to overcome anxiety and build confidence through growth.
What is your favourite sporting moment?
My favourite sporting moment is Argentina winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. It was the greatest final I’ve ever seen across any sport, an emotional, high-stakes match that showcased resilience, teamwork, and the magic of football. Watching Messi lift the trophy after such a dramatic game felt like witnessing history and reminded me why I love sport, it unites people worldwide through pure passion.
What’s your ideal holiday?
My ideal holiday depends on my mood, either relaxing by the beach, disconnecting completely, or immersing myself in a new country by exploring as many cities and cultural experiences as possible. I enjoy finding a balance between rest and adventure, where I can unwind but also come back with new perspectives and stories.
If you had 30 minutes to pick the brain of anyone, who would it be and why?
I’d choose Cristiano Ronaldo. I’d want to understand how he built and sustained his discipline, both mentally and physically, for nearly two decades at the highest level. His ability to consistently perform, reinvent himself, and maintain peak fitness is extraordinary. I’d be curious to learn how he structures his mindset, routines, and habits to stay driven and remain one of the best in the world for so long.
What’s book or podcast that’s helped your career you recommend?
Listening to The Joe Rogan Experience, The Lex Fridman Podcast, and The Compound has helped me broaden my perspective on discipline, human behaviour, and financial growth. Rogan’s conversations taught me the value of curiosity and adaptability, Lex Fridman’s podcast deepened my thinking about focus and consistency, and The Compound strengthened my understanding of wealth-building and long-term planning, all of which have shaped how I approach both work and life.
