Do you have a track record of delivering measurable outcomes or KPIs?
Over an 18-month period (January 2025 to July 2026), I helped grow North East Blaze's Instagram presence significantly. Views reached 5.7M (up 100%), reach hit 928.9k, followers grew to 3.7k (up 146.67%), and content interactions climbed to 96.1k (up 100%).
I also launched the club's TikTok page from scratch, growing it to 1.2k followers within the same timeframe.

I never back down from a challenge, and I'm ready to take on any task that comes my way.
I don't want to put myself in a box of only being able to write or only being able to edit, so I made myself as well-rounded as I could be, giving everything a go, such as photography and graphics. I also have knowledge of a range of sports like netball, Aussie Rules Football, Cricket and even Darts. A consistent trend that I've had in my internship feedback is that when I'm given the opportunity to do something, I always thrive in what I do, and that's something that I pride myself on.
What steps has Casey taken to break into the sports industry?
I've continuously networked via LinkedIn, cold messaging people, but also attending sporting events like the Sharelle McMahon Medal and interacting with people that I know of and look up to on game days at Sandringham FC and North East Blaze. I have also been applying to any job this year that I think I'm best suited towards to continuously get my name out there and recognised. I also post a lot on LinkedIn now, highlighting my capabilities while backing up my statements through photos, articles and videos.
Casey’s interest in sport all started from the love of what sport does for communities
Sport means uniting communities with a similar interest in going for a team or just cheering on a sport that you enjoy. It's something that I've been around my whole life. I love creating player-focused content because it shows their personalities and who they are outside of being an athlete. Every day is also so different from one another, and you never know what to expect. Working in sport is one of the most fun things you can do in the world, and I want to be a part of that and have fun.

I keep volunteering at sporting clubs that have an element of elite sport, such as the VFL and VNL (the premier netball league in Victoria) because I want to work in the elite sporting landscape. My goal in the next 6-12 months is to be working full-time at an elite sporting organisation, more specifically at a club in Super Netball, the AFL, BBL, etc. I know that I want to be a Social Media and Content Coordinator because I get to directly interact with not only the athletes, but the fans as well because they are what keeps clubs running and loving. | I honestly haven't thought about that far down the line. I just want to be happy about what I'm doing, whether that be in a similar space of being a Social Media and Content Coordinator or a Media Manager. My first goal is to break into the industry, then I'll think about what the next 5-10 years may look like. |
What sporting problem keeps Casey up at night, and how would you solve it?
Equality. I want everyone to treat men's and women's sports with respect and acknowledge that every sport and every athlete, no matter the gender, takes talent and work to get to the level that they're at. We see this a lot in AFL/W, and yes, they are different games; both products have to be recognised and respected because both are really good, skilful and entertaining games.
What is Casey like?
What kind of environment do you thrive in?
I thrive in an environment with open communication where everyone works as a team. I love hearing other people's ideas, how we can combine thoughts and gain an understanding of why someone might think a certain strategy or piece of content would suit the campaign/event we're trying to showcase. And if anyone finds they're struggling in something or can't think of something, there's always someone there to help, and there's always support.
When have you had to show resilience in your life or career?
During my internship with Carlton FC, most game days were me completing all of the tasks on my own, which was a first for me, especially because I didn't know much about social media at the time. I was writing the match report, posting on Twitter and Instagram, updating graphics, communicating with the photographer, capturing video content and many more tasks on my own due to scheduling with AFL games the same day. It was definitely a lot to handle, but I eventually came up with a plan and an order of important with the tasks. Once the season ticked along, I coped well with everything that I had to do and was able to enjoy my position more, while feeling more comfortable with the players, which led me to do more feature articles and hold a mini press conference with a player after each game.
What about Casey interests outside of work?
What are your interests outside of work?
I love to read when I'm not at games, filming, editing a video or looking at photos. I also like going to the movies because it's a time for me to turn my brain off, focus on one thing and appreciate the media that I'm consuming for over 90 minutes.
What is your favourite sporting moment?
This sounds so me, but I would say in recent times, the Melbourne Vixens winning the 2025 Super Netball grand final. I was there in person for the game, and when the final siren went, I was full of tears because no one expected the Vixens to win the premiership, let alone make it past the semi-final. They were the underdogs the whole season after having a mid-season slump. In a press conference with head coach Simone McKinnis and captain Kate Moloney, McKinnis joked, saying that they "need to go to the pub". This then became a meme, but it worked. Eventually, in Moloney's winning captain's speech at the grand final, she had such an iconic quote: "How good's Plan A? We're going to the pub!" It was just the perfect ending to a perfect night.
What’s your ideal holiday?
My dream holiday destinations are to do a tour of the United States (Universal Studios, Harry Potter World and Disney World/Land are requirements) and Italy because it's such a beautiful country (and I LOVE pizza, pasta and gelato).
If you had 30 minutes to pick the brain of anyone, who would it be and why?
It would have to be Jacob Gaynor, the king of social media himself. I met him in June when Sandringham played against Tasmania in the VFL/W, and I had such a fun time chatting with him. He was more than happy to talk to me too! I ended up getting a photo with him and getting his phone number, but I would love to just understand how he thinks of these things and creates a whole brand strategy from scratch.
What’s one book or podcast that’s helped your career you recommend?
I have listened to the SportsGrad podcast, but I also listen to a lot of netball podcasts like The Netty Life, The Netty Show, The Back Court, Replayed Netball, Centre Pass and Off the Court. I actually contributed to The Netty Life podcast in 2025, covering international leagues and news, which gave me the opportunity to broaden my horizons and report on news and results that were happening overseas. I also learnt from Brittany Carter, who is a Sports Journalist at the ABC, how she finds some of her stories and how to get leads into potential stories.
