What steps has Emma taken to break into the sports industry?
To proactively position myself for a career in sport, I have focused on connecting my academic knowledge with real-world sporting experiences. Both my sports management degree and consumer experience internship with GIANTS Netball provided me with a strong foundational knowledge, giving me the practical tools to truly excel. Beyond my internship responsibilities, I also spent time volunteering at GIANTS Netball match days to grow my professional network and gain a deeper look behind the scenes. This hands-on involvement allowed me to refine the communication and interpersonal skills needed to handle the fast-paced nature of a live sporting environment.
Emma interest in sport all started from (take this from their why)
My desire to build a career in sport began at a very young age, as I grew up in a household where sport matches from all over the world constantly played on our TV, sparking a deep, lifelong passion for the industry. This love for the game translated into my own sporting endeavours, where traveling to tournaments allowed me to experience the electric energy and community of sport firsthand. As I started attending more live sporting matches, I became incredibly interested in the logistics and operations happening behind the scenes to deliver a seamless event. Realising I wanted to channel this lifelong passion into a professional career is what drove me to pursue my sports management degree. My goal now is to step behind the scenes myself, using my skills and experience to create that same unforgettable experience and sense of belonging for other fans.
Since then, Emma has gone on to work in consumer experience and membership operations, achieving things like
Achievement 1 | Achievement 2 | Achievement 3 |

Where does Emma want to go?

|---|---|
My primary objective is to secure a role within the commercial or consumer department of a professional sporting organisation. I am highly motivated to drive growth through fan engagement or corporate partnerships. By combining the knowledge from my sports management degree with my hands-on experience from my internship, I want to help sporting clubs achieve their commercial targets and deliver an exceptional experience for the fans. Ultimately, I aim to become someone the team can fully depend on to handle day-to-day tasks accurately and efficiently. | In the long term, I aspire to gain interstate experience to broaden my understanding of national sporting operations before eventually taking my career international. Specifically, I would value the opportunity to work within partnerships or consumer operations at Tennis Australia during the Australian Open. My goal is to leverage the knowledge and skills developed there and apply them to an overseas club or organisation, gaining a truly in-depth, global perspective on the sports industry. |
What sporting problem keeps Emma up at night, and how would you solve it?
One problem in sport I’m passionate about solving is the challenge of converting at-home viewers into highly engaged, attending members. As broadcasting and streaming continues to improve each year, sporting clubs and organisations have to work harder to enhance the in-stadium experience. I would love to work on bridging that gap and making fans feel valued from the moment they buy a ticket to the moment they leave the stadium. Additionally, I am eager to use data to address the gap in female sports participation and fan engagement. By understanding what motivates girls and women to attend matches or buy memberships, targeted campaigns can be created to break down barriers and build a more inclusive community for the club.

What kind of environment do you thrive in?
I thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment where teamwork is essential to getting the job done. I really enjoy working where I can think on my feet and maintain a proactive, solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
When have you had to show resilience in your life or career?
A significant time I had to demonstrate resilience was when I had to navigate a sudden, major knee operation while maintaining my commitment to upskilling and advancing my career goals. Recovering from surgery required discipline, and I had to quickly learn to adapt my daily routine, manage my energy levels, and remain mentally focused on the bigger picture. Balancing rigorous physical rehabilitation with self-driven technical training taught me a lot about perseverance. This experience proved to me that I have the mental toughness and adaptability required to handle the fast-paced, unpredictable nature of sporting operations.
