What can Lachlan do?

  1. Give a quick overview of your work experience (jobs, internships, volunteering)?

  • To begin my working career, I started at McDonald’s at the age of 15. Through school and university, I worked my way up the ranks to eventually become a Shift Supervisor, having gone through McDonald's world-renowned leadership training program. During my University studies, where I graduated with two degrees with Distinction, I was able to undertake a year-long internship within the NSW Swifts organisation, where I was able to engage primarily with the consumer team, which involved membership and ticketing databases as well as sales. During the internship, I was also able to be exposed to other areas of the business, helping the events team on Gamedays, as well as the corporate partnerships team with setup of their events and partners activations. I was also able to conduct a few community visits to expose me to the community side of the club. After graduating from university the second time and completing my internship, I was not long after offered a permanent full-time position within the NSW Swifts Consumer team as the Ticketing and Membership Coordinator, where I was able to have more direct day-to-day control over the consumer operations of the Swifts with their membership and ticketing operations from Pre-season events, to member functions, to Game-day operations. Now I am looking for my next adventure in sport to develop my skills further.

  1. Do you have a track record of delivering measurable outcomes or KPIs?

  • Within my time and role at the NSW Swifts, I was part of a team that broke the Membership record two times, once last year and again in 2026. When the record was broken this year, the expectation was to break it by the end of the season, however, we were able to do this before round 5 of the competition.

  • I was also part of the team that sold the largest netball crowd in the preseason doubleheader, where the Swifts and Giants both played back-to-back at Qudos Bank Arena. Those are my proudest highlights in delivering KPI's.

  1. What technical or industry-specific skills do you bring?

  • I have experience with managing membership and ticketing operations via CRM software (Archtics) and Ticketmaster (TM Sales / TM1). I also managed the club’s inbox and inbound calls for enquiries about ticketing and memberships, delivering customer support, resolving enquiries and managing ticket requests and allocations. I also executed numerous outbound sales campaigns for memberships and ticketing. I supported match day operations and executed fan engagement events and experiences to enhance member satisfaction and attendance. I also coordinated internal processes and fulfilment logistics whilst collaborating with internal teams, other clubs, club partners and Netball Australia to optimise operations and performance.

I also have experience leading a team to achieve set KPI's by enforcing policies, procedures and performance standards to ensure consistent, high-quality outcomes. I have also been trained to effectively multitask and adapt to dynamic environments, balancing operational demands and customer interactions.

  1. What tools/platforms/software are they proficient in?

  • All Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel and Word.

CRM management software Archtics, TM1 (TM Sales), Ticketmaster, and Ticketek systems.

  1. What qualifications, certifications, or degrees do you hold?

  • I have graduated with Distinction from the University of Technology Sydney for a:

Bachelor of Public Health alongside a Bachelor of Sports and Exercise Management. I also have a valid Working with Children check.

I like to take ownership, ask questions, and keep improving. Whether I'm leading a team, supporting an event, or helping members, I take pride in doing the small things well because they contribute to the bigger picture.

- On why organisations should take a punt on him

I think someone should take a punt on me because I combine genuine passion for sport with practical experience and a strong willingness to learn. I've built my experience by working in customer-facing leadership roles while also gaining hands-on experience in the sports industry through memberships, fan engagement, and game-day operations.

What separates me is that I'm proactive, reliable, and enjoy finding ways to improve the experience for both customers and colleagues.

I like to take ownership, ask questions, and keep improving. Whether I'm leading a team, supporting an event, or helping members, I take pride in doing the small things well because they contribute to the bigger picture.

I'm still early in my career, but I'm motivated to keep learning, contribute wherever I can, and make a positive impact from day one.

What steps has Lachlan taken to break into the sports industry?

  • Signing up to SportsGrad has been a major step in working on my presence within the sporting industry. Otherwise, my work with the NSW Swifts helped me to create relationships with people either still there or who have moved on to other adventures within the industry, so having those connections to lean on and ask questions has been a valuable step.

I have also tried to apply to any roles that become available to get my name out there and get as much experience as possible, even when being knocked back for roles, asking for feedback and ensuring my resume is considered for future opportunities.

I do need to work on my presence on LinkedIn and making connections with people to create relationships that will help me in the future.

Lachlan's interest in sport all started from watching sport from a young age

Growing up, I have always been a massive sport nerd, any sport, any time, I would watch and become engrossed in it to the point I support a team from every major football league in the world. I also follow the MLB, NFL, NBA etc. you name it, I probably know a bit about it. But why I want to work in sport isn't purely fandom, as over the years I became increasingly curious about how clubs and organisations function, what it takes to make a team run and what happens behind the scenes. I have always thought of how cool it would be to work within an organisation to deliver the events and spectacles I have grown up admiring in person and on TV. I want to be able to use my skills, knowledge and passion for sport to be able to contribute to success for any organisation or team willing to give me an opportunity.

Since then, Lachlan has gone on to work in membership and ticketing operations, achieving things like

Achievement 1

Achievement 2

Achievement 3

Helped the NSW Swifts break their membership record, then broke it again this year, this time before Round 5, ahead of the season-end target

Part of the team behind the largest netball preseason crowd, for the Swifts v Giants double-header at Qudos Bank Arena

Ran day-to-day membership and ticketing operations via Archtics and Ticketmaster (TM Sales/TM1), while managing club inbox and inbound enquiries

Where does Lachlan want to go?

Next 6 - 12 months

Next 5 - 10 years

Broadly, I simply wish to be in a position that will allow me to be exposed to the most experiences possible, I want to see what the sporting world has to offer to me. I want to be in a position where I can see the road ahead of me in terms of career progression, and I am happy within my current space.

More specifically, I'm hopeful to be within a professional sporting team’s office, working within a team such as the consumer, partnerships or events to deliver exceptional outcomes. Within 12 months, I'm hopeful to even be in charge of others within a team such as the consumer team to break KPI's and set the standard. I want to be someone people know can get the job done and have a reputation within the industry.

I would definitely like to be in a management position high within a sporting team/organisation. Not suggesting, say, a CEO, COO or on a board, but in a position of control over a large team or group of people. I would also love to have travelled for work, overseas or in-country, and have worked with an international sporting body or organisation.

What sporting problem keeps Lachlan up at night, and how would you solve it?

One problem I would love to solve is making sport more accessible and engaging for younger audiences and first-time fans. Live sport remains incredibly popular, but there are still barriers around affordability, accessibility and creating meaningful connections with clubs and communities.

I’m eager to find ways to improve the fan experience through community programs, digital engagement and membership initiatives that improve those relationships. I believe that if people have a positive first experience with sport, they're much more likely to stay involved as lifelong participants or supporters.

Being part of creating those experiences is something that really motivates me.

What is Lachlan like?

  1. What kind of environment do you thrive in?

  • I thrive in a supportive, positive environment. One where the pressure is on but I know people have my back and are willing to train me and show me the steps to completing tasks so that I can stand on my own with confidence after time.

I also do thrive in fast-paced environments.

  1. When have you had to show resilience in your life or career?

  • One of the biggest examples of resilience within my life was balancing full-time university studies with part-time work and my internship with the NSW Swifts. Whilst completing my Bachelor of Sports and Exercise Management, I continued working as a shift supervisor at McDonald's up to 5 times a week with overnights occasionally, whilst also completing multiple office and game days for the NSW Swifts.

Juggling study, work, and professional commitments required strong organisation, adaptability, and perseverance. There were times when deadlines, shifts, and events all overlapped, but I stayed focused by planning ahead, communicating effectively, and remaining committed to my goals.

This taught me that resilience isn't just about overcoming setbacks, its also about consistently showing up, adapting to challenges and continuing to perform at a high standard.

What about Lachlan interests outside of work?

  1. What are your interests outside of work?

  • I am a massive sports fan, of all sports and leagues, so watching and being involved in sport is something I enjoy in and out of work.

  • I play baseball on the weekends and try to engage in midweek sports such as Oz Tag when possible.

  • I also love my video games, having grown up with gaming consoles all my life, whether it be Call of Duty or FIFA, I become engrossed in that hobby.

  • Otherwise, I'm a massive family man, I love spending time with my friends and family doing all sorts of things.

  1. What is your favourite sporting moment?

  • One that I saw in person was the State of Origin Decider in 2019 when Tedesco scored in the corner in the dying seconds. I was in that corner when he scored, the entire stadium went crazy, and the atmosphere was incredible. Something I will never forget.

  1. What’s your ideal holiday?

  • I would say a long trip around Europe to see all the wonderful cultures and sights it has to offer. Whilst being there, being able to experience some sporting events such as watching Manchester United and FC Barcelona live.

Otherwise, my other choice is a month in Japan as there is so much to see and do there. I have been once and am desperate to go again.

  1. If you had 30 minutes to pick the brain of anyone, who would it be and why?

  • Either Jason Ryles or Craig Bellamy, having both been players turned coaches, it would be interesting to get an insight into the transition and how things work. How they think on a day-to-day basis and what the challenges are.

Purely a fun one would be Andrew and Matthew Johns, the way they see and speak about the NRL is mesmerising.

  1. What’s one book or podcast that’s helped your career you recommend?

  • I have occasionally listened to The High Performance Podcast, which has helped me think about and develop resilience, mindsets and performance. It helped show me that high performance is built through consistency rather than big moments.

The podcast features conversations with elite athletes, coaches, and business leaders.
