Give a quick overview of your work experience (jobs, internships, volunteering)?
I’ve worked in quantity surveying and project management, focusing on financial oversight, coordination, and delivering projects under pressure.
Alongside my career, I’ve played rugby and currently serve as team captain. During a season out through injury, I coached the Under 19s and Under 21s to stay involved and give back to the game. These experiences have strengthened my leadership, accountability, and ability to contribute positively within team environments

Most impressive statistics are that I successfully tendered for a project of 20M and this was completed well under budget under my management
What technical or industry-specific skills do you bring?
I bring strong operational and commercial capability developed through my background in project management and quantity surveying.
This includes budget management, financial forecasting, stakeholder coordination, risk oversight, and delivering outcomes to fixed deadlines.

These skills translate well into sporting environments where efficient operations, financial discipline, and clear communication are essential to supporting performance and long-term sustainability
What tools/platforms/software are they proficient in?
Microsoft Programmes

As a Kiwi, I’m practical, adaptable, and focused on outcomes rather than ego.
What steps has Dylan taken to break into the sport industry?
The initial steps I have taken is playing within sporting teams but also volunteering around my club when need be.
Next step I have taken is my joining SportsGrad, and my next step is going to be Moving to Australia to follow my dream.
Dylan’s interest in sport all started when he was 4…
My first memory of my love for sport, was my first game of rugby when i was 4 in the frosty Hawkes Bay. I still hold life long friendships from players that were in my inital team. I believe the people you meet through sport, are the people that you want to surround yourself with as that are like minded indiviudals
Where does Dylan want to go?
Next six-12 months | Next 5-10 years |
|---|---|
Over the next 6–12 months, my goal is to transition successfully into the sporting sector and build a strong understanding of sporting operations and programme delivery. I aim to apply my financial and operational skills in a sport-specific environment, develop strong working relationships, and add value across competition delivery and day-to-day operations, while establishing myself as a reliable and adaptable member of the team | Over the next 5–10 years, my goal is to establish myself as a trusted and capable leader within the sporting sector. I aim to build deep expertise across programme delivery, competition operations, and stakeholder management, while continuing to strengthen my commercial and financial capability in a sport-specific context. Longer term, I see myself taking on greater responsibility in operational or leadership roles, contributing to strategic decision-making and organisational growth. Ultimately, I want to help build sustainable, high-performing sporting environments where strong systems, culture, and governance support both competitive success and long-term community impact. |
What sporting problem keeps Dylan up at night, and how would they solve it?
One problem in sport I’d love to help solve is the significant drop in rugby participation in New Zealand as players transition from school rugby into club rugby, and again from under-21s into senior rugby. Too many players disengage not because they stop loving the game, but because competing demands such as work, study, injury risk, and time commitment outweigh the support structures available to them.
I’m interested in helping create more flexible, player-centred pathways that balance performance, enjoyment, and life outside rugby. Improving competition formats, support services, and community connection could help retain players and strengthen the long-term health of the game
What is Dylan like?
What kind of environment do you thrive in?
I thrive in a positive, inclusive environment where everyone contributes and supports each other. I enjoy working with teams that are collaborative, accountable, and still know how to have fun, especially when things get busy or high pressure
When have you had to show resilience in your life or career?
I’ve had to demonstrate resilience both physically and professionally. Through major injuries, I committed fully to rehabilitation, following programmes precisely and focusing on small, consistent improvements to return to my previous performance level. That process reinforced the importance of patience, discipline, and trust in long-term outcomes. Professionally, I’ve shown similar resilience during demanding periods such as large tenders, where long hours and sustained pressure were required. I approach these challenges with a long-term mindset, taking responsibility and maintaining focus, knowing that persistence and consistency ultimately deliver results on the other side
What about Dylan’s interests outside of work?
What are your interests outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy staying active through hybrid training and am currently preparing for both a HYROX event and a marathon.
While I’m unable to play rugby this year due to injury, I still value staying involved through the community and connection the sport provides.
I’m a passionate follower of sport more broadly and enjoy the competitive element of fantasy NRL and NBA leagues.
Outside of sport, I like to switch off by fishing and spending time at the beach, which helps me maintain balance and reset physically and mentally.
What is your favourite sporting moment?
My favourite sporting memory has to be when the All Blacks won the 2011 world cup!!
What’s your ideal holiday?
My ideal holiday is going somewhere tropical, so that i can fully unwind and take a break from the stresses life poses
If you had 30 minutes to pick the brain of anyone, who would it be and why?
