I have a strong multi-cultural background and understanding of how each person thinks from my time studying at an international school. I'm always punctual and can plan my schedule accordingly. Always say yes to new challenges in work to gain better experience in all areas of work. Always calm at work and can provide assistance to anyone in need

What steps has Fu taken to break into the sports industry?

  • Trying to land any jobs that involve gameday or facility operations by volunteering or landing casual jobs. I am doing this mainly to build up my confidence and experience so that I can tackle bigger jobs roles in the future

Why does Fu want to work in sport?

  • Ever since I attended my first professional sports game as a child, I have always wanted to one day be part of the team that helps deliver gameday operations. Even though my parents were not a fan of me pursuing it but I stand firm and decided that after my time studying sports science, I want to transition to what I loved doing the most and be part of the gameday operation delivery team to help manage the experience for fans or help lead a team to deliver the gameday product. In another way of putting it, I want to be out there at the event and working within it, and that's what brings me more joy in life than sitting in front of a computer.

Since then, Fu has gone on to work in casual sport operation roles, achieving things like

Leading an NBL and A-League matchday team

Helped refugees learn to play AFL

Been a stage manager at a massive Anime convention

I was made team leader for managing a team during gameday at NBL and A-League.

Through my role at the Western Bulldogs, I would provide newly arrived refugees and migrants from non-English speaking backgrounds with an opportunity for social participation

Lead comprehensive stage management, overseeing operational logistics, performer coordination, and guest experiences to deliver seamless live events.

Where does Fu want to go?

Next 6-12 months

My career goal is to land a role in facility management or a facility operation-related role. Gameday operations for any related role is also part of my career goals.

Next 5-10 years

I haven't thought that far out but, landing a full-time role is my primary focus. But, if I have to be honest, I want to be hired as one of the key members of staff for major events such as the FIFA World Cup or the Olympics.

What sporting problem keeps Fu up at night?

High turnover and under-training of event volunteers

What is Fu like?

  1. What kind of environment do you thrive in?

  • High energy and fast-paced environment, but also team-oriented environment and everyone is able to communicate well with each other

  1. When have you had to show resilience in your life or career?

  • The one that sticks to my memory the most was when I was made stage manager at a convention event in Sydney, one of the stage programs had to be cancelled due to technical difficulties, and I had to make a tough decision to cancel the program despite 300 patrons eager to watch it. To avoid disappointment, I think outside the box and ask the next manager of the following program whether they are willing to adjust the format to accommodate the extra time added to the schedule. In the end, it worked fantastically, and everyone enjoyed this extra content from the following program.
