I have stated all the things I stand for and spoken about what I am passionate about and hopefully you believe my words, but you can also see the actions.

- On why organisations should take a punt on him

Because my passion and statements have evidence. I have started my own start-up, built a website, built a user-base, created social content all while working in the Corporate world learning about how the biggest and best firms in the world operate. I am primed to combine these skills and experiences and execute on solving problems in the start-up world and my unique perspective and clear passion will be a great addition to any team.

What steps has Jack taken to break into the sport industry?

  • The development of my start-up called the Time Capsule, a sports prediction game based around an in-person event, has given me a series of opportunities and experiences to break into the sports industry.

Jack’s interest in sport all started whilst watching with friends

I am passionate about the off-field and fan experience of sport. Whether its Podcasts and Sports Media, Sports Fantasy Games or just the experience of watching the game with friends, these are experiences where I am able to engage with my community and understand my passions much more deeply. This passion, is what drew me to building my own sports prediction game "The Time Capsule". The game has grown from a word document filled out by my friends to this year a website with 150 users and played by football clubs and workplaces. This experience has shown me two things: - I love to create and build new things - I love the power of engaging and bringing people together around the things they are passionate about e.g Sport I want to have a career where I can do these things and I believe Sports-Start-ups, specifically surrounding Community & fan-engagement, is where this would be best suited.

Where does Jack want to go?

Next six-12 months

Next 5-10 years

I want to find a part time role (2.5-4 days) in a Sports Start-up. Ideally this start-up would have one or more of the following attributes:

Technology Product, Community and Fan-engagement focussed, Sub 30 Headcount.

I am flexible to the business as to what department or role, but feel I would be suited to a number of roles, ideally an all-rounder role of sorts, but in any of the following areas:

Client Management/Business Dev, Operations / Product Delivery

I want to be playing a key operational role or be the founder of a Community/Fan Engagement related Sports-Start-up.

What sporting problem keeps Jack up at night, and how would they solve it?

Reverse the sports fans isolation from their communities through technology that brings fans together, in-person. Technology and a Post-COVID world have seen fans and people more isolated than ever. Most technological solutions for fan-engagement, are isolated experiences that only engage you through your device E.G. Podcasts, Sports Fantasy, Online Gambling. I want to be a part of developing technology that provides opportunities for sports-fans to connect with each other in-person.

What is Jack like?

  1. What kind of environment do you thrive in?

  • Having spent time in larger organisations I have some pretty clear things I want/don't want in an environment.

  • I want to work in a tight-knit/smaller team.

  • I want to work towards clear goals and in an environment where people are passionate about meeting them.

  • I like autonomy and the ability to determine the best way to work.

  • I want to work on projects where we are building and creating things start to finish.

  1. When have you had to show resilience in your life or career?

  • I injured my lower back in May 2024 and spent over 12 months rehabilitating it. This included 3 failed attempts to return to work.

  • This tested me on a number of fronts but predominantly, discouraged me from making the career change I wanted sooner. I am excited to be doing that now, but this pushed me significantly to work hard to rehabilitate myself to work in a job I wasn't passionate about or enjoying.

What about Jack’s interests outside of work?

  1. What are your interests outside of work?

  • As a sports nut, I love AFL and my Collingwood Magpies as well as Cricket. I grew up in Tasmania and love returning there whenever I can.

  • I love skiing, having had trips to New Zealand and Canada, as well as one planned for Japan.

  • I also love games of any sort, like Catan or Poker.

  1. What is your favourite sporting moment?

  • I have so many, but watching Collingwood vs Brisbane 2023 Grand Final live stands pretty tall. I also absolutely loved Glenn Maxwells 203* against Afghanistan on one leg.

  1. What’s your ideal holiday?

  • This might be greedy, but a 4 week holiday that includes 2 weeks of skiing and two weeks by the beach sounds ideal to me. 2 weeks Skiing Niseko in Japan, into a couple of weeks in Vietnam on the way home would be epic!

  1. If you had 30 minutes to pick the brain of anyone, who would it be and why?

  • Craig Hutchison is someone I find endlessly interesting. Listening to any content he puts out, he has a fantastic mind for content and business. I would love to chat to him about his motivations, how he prioritises his time and get his hones thoughts on the potential of the Time Capsule

  1. What’s book or podcast that’s helped your career you recommend?

  • Range, by David Epstein. Teaches the value of being a generalist and no specialising. How changing and evolving makes you valuable and allows you to provide unique perspectives.
