Do you have a track record of delivering measurable outcomes or KPIs?

If a club or workplace is after someone who will not just give them their time, but themselves, their passions and their personality into creating a club that can feel like a home and a family with the overall goal of building something that lasts then give me call.
If a workplace is looking for someone to come in, do the job and then leave then they don't want me. I am looking for a workplace to invest my future into, I love my work and I love being around a good team of people and want to build a spectacular product for a magnificent fanbase.
What steps has Jacob taken to break into the sport industry?
I have volunteered as a digital producer for footy clubs in Canberra and Melbourne.
I have applied and interviewed for many sports institutions across the country in varying sports.
Jacob’s interest in sport all started when he was in high school
My father and I used to watch games of cricket and footy when I was younger and they're my fondest memories. Sadly though when I discovered I couldn't bowl at 150km/h and my kicking skills were less than exemplary I sought a future elsewhere. But that's when I discovered my love of camera and creative work. So I spent my college years and uni years either in an editing studio or at Manuka Oval/GIO Stadium indulging in my two biggest loves. Sport and creative media. In 2021 I tried to finally take the steps to find a career in sports so moved to Sydney with the plan of finding sports work after I've settled. Unfortunately I arrived two weeks before the second lockdown which resulted in having to move back to Canberra and picked up work in commercial radio as a digital manager. Like a dream I got to work with the Canberra Raiders and ACT Brumbies occasionally which only solidified my NEED to work with a club. In December of 2024 I bit the bullet again and transferred within ARN to Melbourne to be closer to more sporting opportunities and have been actively seeking work with clubs ever since. Every day I find myself on the sidelines of a game of footy with a camera in my hands I can't imagine anything greater. The immense feeling of joy it brings me and the connection it gives me to my family has made it so that it's all I've wanted to do. But doing the job isn't enough. I want to make a clubs platform extraordinary, memorable, and stand out amongst the others.

Where does Jacob want to go?
Next six-12 months | Next 5-10 years |
|---|---|
Within six months time I want to be working at a sports club working in the digital team, with the ambition to build a pages platform. Creating engaging content at trainings, travelling with the team to games to get content with the teams and their fans. I want nothing more than to find a club to call home and climb their teams career ladder to build an online community within the institution and the fanbase. | I thrive to eventually be the Content Director for a clubs digital/media content. Managing internal and external communications from social media to public statements to the media. |
What sporting problem keeps Jacob up at night, and how would they solve it?
Some sport institutes feel like they have a bit of a disconnect within their fan base. I'd even so that some clubs online presence can feel like they have a distinct lack of a unique personality. I'd love to work with a team to build a clubs personality and create an online community that directly engages with it's fanbase unlike other clubs do.
What is Jacob like?
What kind of environment do you thrive in?
One that allows me to pitch ideas but also does offer ideas of their own.
I am a fairly independent worker and love to spearhead projects from concept to conceptions but I do enjoy the collaborative process and working in a team with other like-minded creatives.
When have you had to show resilience in your life or career?
I have tried to find work in sports since 2021 and even moved to Sydney to find work before the pandemic killed the opportunity. I didn't let this kill the dream so continued to do volunteer work in Canberra and eventually made another move now to Melbourne with the intention of not stopping until I succeed this time. In 2023 my digital content team went from three creatives to just me. I was now the sole employee looking after an entire station, multiple podcasts, and extra pages which included a Canberra based life style page. My work tripled and I had to knuckle down to keep the content flowing and at a standard our networks felt was an appropriate quality. Rather than complaining I saw this as an opportunity to show what I can do when left in charge. In those 12-months I pulled 10-12 hour days for months, I grew the social pages followers significantly, and saw our largest online engagement the pages had ever seen. Plus I was awarded staff member of the year, I was nominated for two Australian Commercial Radio Awards (Best Digital Content & Best Off-Air Newcomer) and somehow was still able to play fourth grade division Canberra Footy every week (we got the wooden spoon that year sadly)
What about Jacob’s interests outside of work?
What are your interests outside of work?
Besides sport. I spend a huge portion of my time either at the gym, training for a marathon, at footy training, or doing a Spartan race.
I love to read and am currently reading the Red Rising series, I spend a lot of time in the kitchen cooking as I love to learn new recipes (mostly to make excellent dishes to then enjoy in front of the cricket of footy).
I do have a huge nerdy side as well, indulging in pop culture tv, movies and games and can sadly say I have gone full nerd and at one point was the host of a D&D Podcast.
What is your favourite sporting moment?
The 2012 ANZAC day clash between Collingwood and Essendon where the Pies won in a last second behind to bring the total to 80-79 (Have to love Swanny)
Brett Lee's entire career
What’s your ideal holiday?
I'd love to a trip to Iceland or New Zealand where I hire a van and follow the coastline.
Take nothing but a camera, my guitar and some runners and live out of the van.
If it's New Zealand then I will absolutely have to stop through Hobbiton it's just a non-negotiable.
If you had 30 minutes to pick the brain of anyone, who would it be and why?
Jacob Gaynor, former Head of Content at the GWS Giants and the now Head of Content at the Tasmania Football club. He's done exactly what I've wanted to do for years and I'd love nothing more than to pick his brain on how and why he did what he did. When he built the Giants page to be that cheeky humour filled page it was a first of its kind and I'd love to know how much of a fight he had to make it the way it is now and how he got to where he is.
What’s book or podcast that’s helped your career you recommend?
The WillowTalk Podcast has helped me grow as a creative. As someone who works on podcasts and creating content for a fan base, following WillowTalk as a casual fan of the sport I didn't expect to see the content they were creating and it influencing how I would view content creation. Seeing your professionals in a more relaxed and approachable manner really helped emphasise that the social landscape these days has shifted from very professional fronting to people engaging more with seeing their talent figures as just normal passionate people. I've since tried to get the talent of radio stations I work with the relax more, allow themselves to make mistakes and have fun with it to appear more approachable to our fanbase and new listeners.

What others say about Jacob
"Jake is a gun, working with our Breakfast Show he was able to identify good content through the speakers and turn that around for screen or socials. He’s a great listener, kind, funny and has a great eye for how content can sing across different platforms. Can you not hire him so he can come back to Canberra? Thanks." - Kristen Davidson, Mix106.3 Breakfast Show Announcer
"Working with Creech was both a pleasure and a privilege. I sincerely challenge you to find a more thoughtful, intelligent and kind human than him. If it were up to me, he’d still be working at the radio station, but he’s too good for this place. Whatever line of work you’re in, give him a shot and I’ll give you my word that you won’t be disappointed." - Nige Johnson, Mix106.3 Breakfast Show Announcer
