What can Lukas do?

  1. Give a quick overview of your work experience (jobs, internships, volunteering)?

  • My professional experience has been grounded in fast-paced, customer-centric environments that demand precision, adaptability, and clear communication. I have a strong passion for social media content creation. A career that I wish to pursue professionally.

  • In my free time, I serve as a freelance Content Coordinator for Eunoia Fitness and UpNAway Balloons, both small startup companies managed by friends and family. I develop strategic content calendars, film and edit content, and ensure alignment with the brand's identity and audience engagement goals. This hands-on role sharpened my visual storytelling skills and taught me how to manage production timelines from ideation through post.

  • In addition, I have interned at Alive 90.5 Radio Station, which allowed me to explore brand communication through on-air content creation and learn from industry professionals. I was allowed to host the breakfast show from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. every Friday.

  • I've had previous jobs as a manager at Oporto and Store Assistant at Aldi which has landed me my current job as a Sales representative for Pacific Optics. From which, I have gained experience efficiently managing a high-volume territory across Sydney and Canberra, servicing a diverse range of retail clients, including convenience stores and independent outlets. I have also built and maintained strong customer relationships and consistently met and exceeded sales targets. I am responsible for merchandising, in-store execution, and identifying opportunities to maximise sales through effective product placement and upselling.

  1. Do you have a track record of delivering measurable outcomes or KPIs?

  • As part of my current role, hitting KPIs is important. I would say my most impressive stat so far has been achieving above 85% of my quarterly sales each quarter as a first-year sales rep.

  1. What technical or industry-specific skills do you bring?

  • As part of my own research, I have a strong understanding of how social media operates within the sports realm. I have a brief understanding of editing, producing, and creating content across multiple platforms. Able to meet deadlines, communicate effectively, work hard as an individual and as a team player.

  1. What tools/platforms/software are they proficient in?

  • Instagram

  • TikTok

  • iMovie

  • Capcut

  • Youtube

  • Riverside

  • Rodecaster

  1. What qualifications, certifications, or degrees do you hold?

  • I have completed a Bachelor of Communications.

I am not one to give up easily, am willing to sacrifice, and believe I have the knowledge to rival most people who are already in said industry, while also understanding that I still have a long way to go and am willing to learn from industry professionals..

- On why organisations should take a punt on him

I think people should take the chance to hire me because of how eager I am to break into the field of sports media. Although I may lack the experience and direction in terms of career roles, I firmly believe that I will put my best foot forward to prove my worth, as I have done in all previous roles that I have had to date.

What steps has Lukas taken to break into the sport industry?

  • I have completed a Bachelor of Communications at uni. I have completed an internship with Alive 90.5 Radio Station.

  • I have been applying to gain more experience, but I've found that it is a difficult industry to break into.

  • I'm hoping now that by applying through the SportsGrad Program, I will find more luck.

Lukas’ interest in sport all started in high school…

My love for sports, specifically soccer, began in high school. While most of my classmates were actually paying attention in class, I spent the majority of my time listening to football podcasts and gaining a large understanding of all things Premier League. This "back of class distraction" never affected my grades in school or uni; however, it became an uncontrollable itch in the back of my head, and the more I would ignore it, the more and more I found myself wanting to talk about it, study it, and create content because of it.

I've never been particularly good at sports, nothing more than mediocre at best. However, when it came to knowledge about the actual game, what tactics to run, what stories need to be told, and what opinion I thought people should have about the teams that they loved, I always found myself above and beyond informed. This passion for telling stories and influencing opinion led me to pursue a degree in journalism when I went to uni. I've taken inspiration from the footballing podcasts that I grew up watching and have seen how people like Claudio Fabiano and Kat Saso have turned it into a career in Australia, and it has inspired me to pursue this goal of working within the sports media realm.

Where does Lukas want to go?

Next six-12 months

Next 5-10 years

Within the next 6-12 months, my goal is to land a job within the sports media realm. I am hoping that by pursuing this, it can springboard me into hosting my own podcast or presenting for the A-League or Premier League here in Australia.

Working at a World Cup. To have started a successful footballing podcast. To work professionally in radio and collaborate with industry professionals in the field, such as Claudio Fabiano.

What sporting problem keeps Lukas up at night, and how would they solve it?

Why is football at a local level not as supported as overseas? It's a question I've had for a long time, especially considering how many young, talented players are forced to give up on their dreams because they are priced out of it or can't get past political views within a club.

What is Lukas like?

  1. What kind of environment do you thrive in?

  • I definitely thrive in creative spaces. In group environments, I can not only bounce ideas off people but also learn from my peers. In my opinion, having an environment where everyone contributes is more beneficial in a mental and professional capacity.

  1. When have you had to show resilience in your life or career?

  • I am currently stuck at a job that I do not enjoy. A job that keeps me away from home and that isn't a career I want to pursue, which has affected my general mood and hasn't been made better by the fact that I can't seem to land a job in the field I want. This whole experience has been a test of resilience, in the hopes of pursuing my dreams, that I will eventually bounce back from the situation I currently find myself.

What about Lukas’ interests outside of work?

  1. What are your interests outside of work?

  • I enjoy playing sports with my friends. We normally get together once or twice a week to play soccer, basketball, tennis, or gym or anything we feel up to trying.

  • I also enjoy stepping out to dinner with family and friends and going to events like concerts or movie premieres.

  1. What is your favourite sporting moment?

  • My favourite sporting moment is seeing Uruguay win the Copa America in 2011. Coming from a South American household means we are extremely passionate about everything sports, and to experience my home nation rise and win an international trophy in my lifetime was amazing. What was even better was seeing how much it meant to my dad and my grandparents.

  1. What’s your ideal holiday?

  • Somewhere sunny with beautiful natural surroundings and an unlimited amount of adventurous activities to try. I've always wanted to travel to Brazil with my friends. To experience Carnival, the culture, food, and outdoor activities. Beach, paragliding, partying, and exploring the national parks. I also want to travel to America to visit family that I haven't seen in a long time.

  1. If you had 30 minutes to pick the brain of anyone, who would it be and why?

  • Joe Thomlinson. He is a British journalist who started his early career making YouTube videos about football. He now hosts Saturday Social for Sky Sports' Premier League. I'd choose Joe because he was a very big reason as to why I wanted to pursue this career in the first place; I think he's really knowledgeable, and I can learn a lot from him in terms of experience in the field and how he came to work for Sky, and in general, I'd love to debate him on hot takes about the sport.

  1. What’s book or podcast that’s helped your career you recommend?

  • Footballing podcasts like Football Daily, The Ripple Effect, and The Club have all helped me gain a larger understanding of the sport I love. They've also allowed me to understand different opinions on sporting topics, which I think is key in order to not be biased when discussing any topic.

Additional details

  1. Where in the world are you located, and where are you open to work?

  1. What is the most important consideration for you in your next role?

  • For my next role, it's important for me to work within a creative space, under professional guidance that can help develop my skills and knowledge within the sports media industry.

  • I tend to thrive in team-oriented spaces where we can bounce ideas off each other and push for success. I would love my next role to be a place where I have the opportunity to grow within the company and prove my worth.
