- On why organisations should take a punt on him

Grit. The fact that I am willing to pursue a career in sports when it isn't the norm in my home country shows you that I am willing to do whatever it takes to get what I want. I have failed many times in my life, but I have also learnt from them. My time in Australia is limited; therefore, with the time I have, I will work hard to earn the trust of my potential employers and deliver positive results for them.

What steps has Sak taken to break into the sport industry?

I have done a lot of networking and attended industry conferences, as I believe building relationships gives me a stronger chance of getting a foot in the door than simply applying online.

More recently, I’ve also started creating LinkedIn content where I share insights and ideas around sports marketing and fan engagement as a way to contribute to industry conversations and build my professional presence.

Sak’s interest in sport all started whilst growing up…

I'm from a Southeast Asian country. It is more common that people would want the big roles like Nurses, Lawyers, etc. In my experience, not a lot have said out loud that they want to work in sports.

I could've gone down the same route; however, I want to do what I am truly passionate about. I grew up loving sports; I have watched them, and I have played them. Therefore, I feel like I belong here. Australia is a great country for sports. If I get to stay and work here, that will be great. However, if my time here comes to an end, I will still go back to my home country and take what I've learnt and make a difference there.

Where does Sak want to go?

Next six-12 months

Next 5-10 years

My goal in the next 6–12 months is to secure a marketing or fan engagement role in sport and build hands-on experience delivering real campaigns and measurable results.

I’m focused on developing practical skills, expanding my network, and contributing to projects that create real value for sports organisations.

In 5–10 years, I see myself established in sports marketing and fan engagement within a professional sporting organisation.

I want to be leading campaigns and initiatives that drive real fan growth and measurable impact.

Coming from a background where opportunities in sport were limited, my long-term goal is to build enough experience and credibility to lead meaningful projects and help grow the game and its communities.

What sporting problem keeps Sak up at night, and how would they solve it?

Bringing more fans to the stadium (specifically A-League) and entertain fans to the fullest, giving them a reason to come back.

What is Sak like?

  1. What kind of environment do you thrive in?

  • Where everyone is supportive of each other.

  1. When have you had to show resilience in your life or career?

  • During my applied project with the Penrith Panthers, where my primary role was as a data analyst, I recognised that some areas of the presentation preparation required additional support. I volunteered to take on the responsibility of designing the presentation graphics and contributing to the final report to ensure the project was delivered to a high standard. I managed these additional responsibilities while also balancing multiple research projects as part of my scholarship during the same year. The work was ultimately appreciated by both my group members and the project supervisor.

  • Working my way up from being a bench warmer to becoming the captain of my high school soccer team within a year.

  • Failing my Year 12 national exam in my home country and promising myself and my family that I wouldn’t let them down again, which I followed through on by successfully graduating from university.

  • When Arsenal won the 2020 FA Cup. The only trophy I have ever celebrated since becoming a fan.

  1. What’s your ideal holiday?

  • Travel with loved ones or simply spend time with them.

  1. If you had 30 minutes to pick the brain of anyone, who would it be and why?
