I'm currently working at Gold Coast Suns as a membership assistant.
Joining SportsGrad has been the biggest move I've made so far.
Tarun’s interest in sport all started 10 years ago
10 years ago, I was in Portugal pursuing my dream to become a soccer player, and I never thought I'd create content for running/fitness, work as a model, make coffees at a cafe, run f&d at a hotel, coach kids for soccer, and be in a childcare centre taking care of babies. While I was doing all these things, one thing remained constant... My fitness journey! Since 2024, I have run 4 marathons, 5 half marathons, and 2 ultra marathons (100km from GC to Brisbane being the most recent). I stopped pursuing football, but my passion for sports never died. Whether it's trying different sports, watching a game of cricket, or getting the opportunity to work casually at the Gold Coast Suns, and also pursuing a running coach certification, I knew at some point I wanted to be something in the sports industry.
Where does Tarun want to go?
Next six-12 months | Next 5-10 years |
|---|---|
I want to land a full time role by August in a sporting organisation working as a social media coordinator (my preferred area of expertise). I believe I'd also be good at Corporate Hospitality (my experience working at a 5-star hotel gives me the ability to apply my skills in this role. | I want to be in a leadership role in the next 5 years, and I want to be the GM of my department. |
What sporting problem keeps Tarun up at night, and how would they solve it?
No kid/family should've to pay to play a sport if that kid is good enough to compete.
What is Tarun like?
What kind of environment do you thrive in?
Fast-paced, where times goes by quickly.
When have you had to show resilience in your life or career?
November 29th, I started my 100km run from the Gold Coast. It was an overnight run, and it was humid. Between 35 and 45km, I almost convinced myself that I should stop. The reasons I was giving myself were pretty valid, such as "I'll get injured, and it won't be worth not being able to run for a few months". What kept me going was that my team had worked so hard, prepared everything for me, staying up 24+hrs just so I could make it. I thought to myself, "If there is anyone who can get through it, it's me". After the pain didn't get worse, it was just in many places.

1) Messi lifting the world cup!
2) Aguero scoring a last-minute goal for ManCity, snatching the title away from ManUtd at the last minute of the last game of the season. ManCity won the league by overall goal difference, but they had the same points. (I'm a ManUtd fan)

I'd pick the brain of 16 year old me and ask him, "What the hell was he thinking about becoming a professional soccer player in Europe?"
