Take a punt on me not for what I can do now, but for what I will be able to do in the future.
I am incredibly dedicated and driven to be the best I can be. I will go above and beyond to ensure I am applying myself in the best way possible to the task at hand. Having a desire to improve allows me to grow within any environment, and I love to learn new things. I approach situations with a mindset that enables me to learn from every experience and continue developing as a professional. I recognise that I am not perfect, but I work hard every day to better myself.
What steps has Zac taken to break into the sports industry?
I have undertaken several internships within the sports industry, each providing me with opportunities to grow.
Zac’s interest in sport all started from the 2014 preliminary final between Hawthorn and Port Adelaide
The sports industry has allowed me to experience so many memorable moments throughout my life. I will never forget the feeling of close to 100,000 people roaring during the dying stages of the 2014 preliminary final between Hawthorn and Port Adelaide. The thrill and excitement that sport provides cannot be matched, and its ability to impart lasting experiences on consumers is incredible.
I want to work in the sports industry so that I can contribute to the success of teams, leagues, and organisations, and in turn improve the consumer experience. Making other people feel satisfied and providing them with a product that enhances their lives is what drives me.
Since then, Zac has gone on to work in sport and marketing, achieving things like
National product rollout | Athlete development | Digital learning content |
|---|---|---|
Successfully delivered a national product rollout across 21 stores and distribution centres in just 3 months with BluLine Solutions. | Contributed to athlete development and performance during high-performance internships with Sandringham Dragons and St Kilda Next Generation Academy. | Developed digital learning materials for a new app during his internship with Golf Australia, supporting training engagement and adoption. |
Where does Zac want to go?
Next 6-12 months | Next 5-10 years |
|---|---|
Land a full-time role within a sporting club, ideally working within an AFL club as part of an administration team. | Become part of a management team within a sporting club, ideally working as an Operations Manager or in list management. |
What sporting problem keeps Zac up at night?
I would love to solve the inequity that exists in most sports between male and female athletes, where males are consistently provided with better conditions.
What is Zac like?
What kind of environment do you thrive in?
I thrive in an environment where I am part of a team that can lean on each other for assistance. An environment where work is carried out both individually and as part of a team.
When have you had to show resilience in your life or career?
During my current role, several issues arose during the product rollout. These issues were incredibly challenging and forced me to be resilient as I worked to fix them. It took many attempts to rectify these IT-related issues, which forced me to be patient and continue to create new ways to fix them. These issues made it incredibly hard to carry out my work, but I had to be resilient and continue to show up every day in order to meet customer demands.
What about Zac’s interests outside of work?
What are your interests outside of work?
Quite literally, watching/consuming/playing sport and engaging in physical activity.
I love to read self-improvement style books as well.
I love to play with my cats and dog.
I love to try new foods with my girlfriend.
What is your favourite sporting moment?
My favourite sporting moment happened quite recently. I won a senior Division 1 premiership in the MPFNL with Rosebud. Knowing how much hard work we all put in throughout the year made it one of the most special days, and to celebrate it with all of my mates was incredible. Winning by 1 point topped it all off!
What’s your ideal holiday?
My ideal holiday is one where there is no schedule. You can wake up when you like and cruise around for the day, or you can get up early and go for a run or to the gym. It is one where the weather is warm enough so that you can wear a t-shirt and shorts all day and night. I would explore new foods and sights with my girlfriend.
If you had 30 minutes to pick the brain of anyone, who would it be and why?
I would pick the brain of Graham Wright (current CEO of Carlton) as he is experienced in the roles related to my career goals. He has been incredibly successful in these roles, too, so I am sure I would learn a lot.
What’s one book or podcast that’s helped your career you’d recommend?
Reading Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins helped me to differentiate between tasks I can and cannot control, leading to a more productive working day.
